WINE TASTING: Somewhere Beyond the Sea...

Somewhere Beyond the Sea

Somewhere waiting for me…. is an excellent glass of wine. Whether it be California or France, you can find exciting wines that are a great value. You might have to look hard - or come into Humble Vine! J. We have a lineup that you will be proud to chug. I mean taste. We start in California for a white blend of 5 grapes. Then off to Piedmont for the rare northern Italian Rose. (wipes drool off chin). For reds we venture into the ever-thrifty Portugal for a cool summer red, Rhone France for a classic GSM, and back to Italy for a smoking Sangiovese.

Get here, or be ridiculed by friends and family.

@ Humble Vine, Wednesday April 17, 2019. 4pm until the bottles are empty!

Sea Monster, “Eclectic” White Blend, Santa Ynez Valley CA $17

Kitchen ink bklend. (Viognier, Riesling, Grenache Blanc, Gewurztraminer and Roussanne) Wonderful nose of candied apricot and honeysuckle with a touch of peach. On the palate there is crispness and a smooth minerality. Great with an array of foods. Cool wine.

Pico Maccario, “Lavignone” Rosato, Piedmont Italy $18

A good rosé is not just pleasurable, it is versatile too. This wine has bright aromatics and dry finish make it ideally suited to a wide range of dishes. Aromas of wild strawberry, watermelon, cranberry, fresh-cut grass, and river stone. A refreshing, but modest, backbone of acidity supports a round mouth-feel and velvety texture. The dry and balanced finish leaves the palate feeling clean and refreshed.

Doural, Red Tinto, Dao Portugal $12

Dark ruby in the glass, fruity nose of raspberry and cherry followed with a bit of oak. The palate is again very fruity, with low acidity and medium tannins. Raspberry and cherry dominate again with some coffee and pepper in rather faint finish. Thank you, Portugal, for being awesome and affordable.

Domaine Lafond, Lirac “Roc Epine”, Southern Rhone France $18

A powerful and well-built wine, a deep ruby color with violet tints. Complex nose of vanilla, fruits and cherries. The attack is rich and firm; the mouth expresses long lasting nuances of vanilla and pepper. This is a smooth and rich wine with a very good length. Grenache/Syrah/Mourvedre.

Il Poggione, Rosso di Montalcino, Tuscany Italy $29

South of famous Chianti lies the town of Montalcino. (Known for Brunello di Montalcino). A giant of tannin and strength. Here is his little sister that can beat him up! The feminine Rosso di Montalcino”.  Less oak, but same structure. Compared to Brunello it is fruity and mellow. Dry with long-lasting flavor velvety tannins. Delicate and vibrant. Accents of earth, tobacco spice, dried cherry, and orange peel! Shows focus and precision. You gotta’ try this one.
