Spanish Grenache!

A wonderful grape that can be crafted (and spelled) in many different ways. Here we have 4 Grenache from 4 regions, done in 4 different ways. We will start with a Rosado from Rioja, a dark juicy red from Cariñena, A light unoaked red from Monstant, and an oaked version from Campo de Borja!

@ Humble Vine

Wednesday, February 18th

HOURS: 2-8 PM

Wine Tasting: $25

Muga, Rosado           Rioja, Spain $19

Outstanding rose from Rioja! A soft pale salmon color. Aromatics of ripe peach skins, stone fruit, and a hint of white blossom. On the palate, it is a very well-balanced wine, with raspberry, orange zest, and a marked, sharp acidity. 60% Garnacha, 30% Viura, 10% Tempranillo.

San Valero, Plano Alto Garnacha           Cariñena, Spain $20

This northeastern Spanish town is believed to be the origin of the grape with the same name: Cariñena (in French, known as Carigñan). Rather inky with dark berries and graphite to the black-cherry aromas and flavors. Intense aroma of ripe black fruit with balsamic nuances, subtle spices yielded by its aging in barrels.

Sindicat, Montsant “La Figure” Garnaxta          Montsant, Spain   $25

An hour drive outside of Barcelona in the Monsanto region. Bright cherry-red with hints of violet, the wine offers an expressive nose of red cherries, wild strawberries, and raspberries, accompanied by Mediterranean herbs, floral lavender, and subtle spice. A elegant, light and fresh, unoaked Garnaxta (spelled with an x in the Catalonia region)

Bodega Alto Moncayo, “Locos Por El Vino” Garnacha     Campo de Borja, Spain $29

Opaque red-black. Scarlet rim. The wine opens to an amalgam of minerals and unctuous super-ripe berries. On the palate the wine is deep, rich and ripe. Black cherries and plums give way to hints of licorice, molasses and a hint of cinnamon. A short time (2 months!) in neutral oak to take the edge off. Solid tannins and focused acidity with a long finish.

Time: 2pm - 8pm or until the bottles run dry!
