Foris, Dry Gewurztraminer Rogue Valley, Oregon $19
Foris is an great winery Way down in southern Oregon, just a few miles from the California border. They are so cool, their 1994 “Maple Ranch” Pinot Noir even made it to a White House dinner back in ’97! I recently tried their dry Gewürztraminer and loved it—definitely a perfect pick for Thanksgiving. It’s got those classic Gewürz aromatics like rose petals, lychee, and a bit of ginger, with a bright citrusy zing on the palate. Medium-bodied and smooth, it’s super food-friendly and balanced with a nice mix of tropical fruit and spice.
Elizabeth Rose, Napa Chardonnay Napa, California $23
From rehire estate vineyards in Napa’s prized Yountville. Smooth and creamy, citrus and a little lychee on the nose. On the palate, you get tropical fruit and a bit of vanilla, balanced by refreshing acidity. It has a richness and subtle oak. An old school, 100% Chardonnay. Half of the wine has been fermented in oak and it all goes into barrels for 6 months before bottling.
Coelho, “Bunny Cuvee” Pinot Noir Willamette Valley, Oregon $21
Coelho Winery is a family-owned winery located in Amity, Oregon, in the Willamette Valley. They specialize in hand-crafted, single-vineyard Pinot Noir. More than one friend has asked me for a fruity Pinot. Why so serious?…So, here is a fun, fruit-forward delight, with bright strawberry, cherry, and cola flavors. It has a smooth, velvety texture balanced by lively acidity and a hint of spice. A great option for multiple courses.
Daniel Bouland, “Melanie” Cote de Brouilly Beaujolais, France $36
Côte de Brouilly is a small, higher-altitude appellation on the slopes of the extinct Mont Brouilly volcano. This steep, mineral-rich site has 70-year-old Gamay vines, and yields structured, age-worthy Beaujolais with real depth. Fermented whole-cluster with native yeasts in concrete and aged in old foudres, the wine is bottled unfiltered to preserve its natural texture and vivid energy. A benchmark from one of Beaujolais’ most respected winemakers.
