Avennia Wine Tasting!!

Avennia

“Old World Inspiration. Proudly Washington. Sourcing from acclaimed vineyards and employing traditional cellar techniques, our goal is to create wines with a voice.

We focus on grape varieties used in Bordeaux and the Rhône Valley, as their similar latitude to Washington makes them a natural fit to excel here.”   Today we have a special lineup for Leap Year Day. The winemaker Chris Petersen (formerly of Delille Cellars!!!), has a created a new batch of Washington wines called - Avennia. And we are showcasing these over the top wines on a day fitting of these special wines. A day that comes but once every four years. We leap, headfirst into this lineup.

Saturday, February 29th!!

4PM till the bottles run dry

Avennia, Oliane Sauvignon Blanc $28

Oliane is 100% Sauvignon Blanc, barrel fermented using native yeast and bottled unfined.  Our intent for this wine is to clearly express the richness and complexity this noble grape is capable of in Washington.  "Leads with ripe aromas of grapefruit, Meyer lemon, peach, honey, and spring flowers. The palate is quite rich and palate coating, with stone fruits, citrus pith, crushed seashell, and sweet floral elements. A streak of mineral acidity keeps the wine focused and quenching through the finish." - Chris Peterson, Avennia Winemaker

Avennia, Lydian G-S-M $26

This is the inaugural release of this entry-level offering from the winery. The aromas pop, with notes of raspberry, black pepper, blueberry, herb and braised meat. A textured, flavorful palate follows, bringing a sense of freshness. It's an outrageous value.

Avennia, Justine Southern Rhone Blend GSM $43

Justine reflects our belief that Washington is capable of producing world class blends of grape varieties traditional to the Southern Rhône region of France. The name is inspired by one of the great heroines of recent literature, who also sprung from the imagination of the Mediterranean. Dark, seductive, complex, with a chasm of depth: The Justine is a great reflection of Avennia’s mission of expression, and Washington’s generous terroir. "A palpable sense of freshness is a defining character of this year’s Justine. Notes of raspberries, fresh cut flowers, anise seeds, and rubbed thyme greet the nose. On the palate, too, there is a sense of poise and precision to the fresh red berry, crushed rock, floral, and herb notes. It’s tempting to drink it on release but will also age very well for 5-8 years." - Chris Peterson, Winemaker

Avennia, Gravura Bordeaux Blend $40

Every wine is a story waiting to be told; our philosophy is to gently guide it to its best expression. Gravura is dedicated to the artisan aspect of winemaking. This blend is inspired by the wines of the Graves region in Bordeaux, emphasizing balance, complexity, and above all, deliciousness. Winemaker's Tasting Note: "Starts with a lively bouquet of red currants, Damson plum, Amarena cherries, violets, pencil shavings, and rich milk chocolate notes. Seamless and balanced on the palate, with a freshness indicative of the vintage. “This wine finishes with rich red and black fruits, anise, desert sage, and rich mocha powder. While tasting delicious out of the gate, short term cellaring will bring together the components. It will age nicely for 8-12 years." - Chris Peterson, Winemaker

Avennia, Sestina Left Bank Bordeaux Blend $77

The Sestina is a type of poem with an ancient structure within which new ideas can flourish. Our Sestina blend has the same goal:  Old World Bordeaux varietals chosen from great vineyards, and treated in a traditional fashion, yielding a modern vision of Washington’s finest terroirs. "Good deep ruby/garnet color, with aromas of black cherry, fresh black currant, dark mocha, cigar box, and graphite. The palate is lively and dense with mountain berries, mocha, vanilla honey, damp earth, and wildflowers. The finish shows a distinct chalky minerality and beautiful tension. This is a classically balanced and ageworthy Sestina. Drink 2025-2040." - Chris Peterson, Winemaker
