Palate Punchers

If you like tame, wimpy, or soft wines, stay home and watch TV. Because we are bringing in the goons…the fighters…the beefcakes…the Mouth Bruisers.  All these wines punch back in a way that will make you call your momma, and tell her who hurt you.  But these wines are also world renowned; 90+ points for most of them. If you want to join a fight club that likes wine, or if you want to join a wine club that likes fights... wait…never mind. Just come in Saturday and set your pallet up fer’ a bruising

@ Humble Vine, Wednesday September 4th

4pm till our bottles are out.

Domaine de Pothiers, Rose, Loire Valley France $17

100% Gamay. Completely natural, biodynamic, native yeast only, no additives, no enzymes, no SO2 before or during fermentation, hand harvested, sang lullabies and massaged at night. Red plum, ripe raspberries with white flowers. Strong mineral backbone balances with a strong vein of acidity. Refreshing. Killer with barbecue or early mornings.

Mas Candi Desig,  $19

Biodynamic. 56-year-old bush-trained Xarel-lo (sounds like Zarélo) vines grown in limestone, 300 meters high, which is blasted by cold winds, resulting in a long growing season. Picked, pressed, and given 24 hours of skin-contact before spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel. Aged for 7 months on the fine lees in stainless steel. This wine is awesome!

L'abrunet de Frisach, Red, Catalonia Spain, $19

ORGANIC, if you care about organs.  Cherry garnet color with violet edges showing its youth. The nose is initially spicy, floral, dairy and ripe, round fruit with mineral notes. On the palate it is fresh, balanced by a good acidity, sensations of fresh fruit, with a final where the mineral sensations return. A broad, fresh and one of those wines you don’t get tired of drinking.

Garnacha Fina 60% & Cariñena 40%

Mille 1, Rosso, Lake Garda Italy $21

Like the Phantom of the Opera, this wine is Organic. (I know, I used that one already…) Experiencing Mille1 is like driving with the top down on a summer day: the color is a vibrant garnet, shimmering with opaqueness and enveloping the nose in scents of wildflowers, ripe currants, blackberries and warm spices. At first taste, the wine is lively and full bodied, inviting you back for another sip as savory undertones carry into notes of red berries. A freshness like a seaside breeze moves through the finish, leaving a silky softness behind.

Procedo, Red, Columbia Valley Washington $25

Crazy blend from the gals from Lady Hill. Sangiovese, Barbera, Syrah, and Merlot. All grown in Washington. Aromas of red and black cherry, raspberry, and leather with hints of dried earth and tobacco leaf. The mouth is weighted and plush with flavors of black cherry and plum. The rich texture is balanced with fine, talc-like tannins that mingle with a vibrant, juicy acidity.
