Jacket Weather
Before we attempt to dig the winter clothes out of hibernation, there is a transition through jacket weather. Fabrics that are lightly holding us, but surely tough enough to block or retain the fluctuations of temperature. This tasting will also be a light grasping, but deep concentration of flavor and body. Like a Veneto rose that has flavor and spice. Similar to an oaky, buttery, but fruity Chardonnay The grape Carignan is dark and lush but medium bodied. Pinot Noir has the natural tendency to be light easy, but in the Willamette Valley they can produce a rich and bountiful wine. And then Merlot…misunderstood Merlot. This example has been taken care of with precision and a masters touch. Leaning towards bold but still has the soul of Merlot. But don’t take my word for it. Taste for yourself….

Novacorte, Rose, Veneto Italy $17
Its perfume is pronounced with signs of huckleberry, and cherry skins. Fleshy color with bright light salmon reflections. Palate holds a well-balanced, dry and medium finish. “Quite chuggable really”. the shopkeeper said in a fake accent.
Christopher Michael, Chardonnay, Columbia Valley WA $16
Some people hate Chardonnay. Me? I am way into it. Oaky, Apple-ey, butter bombs? Oh yah. Apple, pear, apricot, white flowers. Medium body with bright acidity, mild creaminess, big fruit on a medium to long finish. This will be my Chardonnay to gets me through the cold months.
Mont Gravet, Carignan, Pays D’Herault France $14
Deep, dark color and lovely aromas of blackberries and figs. This wine is full bodied and rich in flavor, but elegant with a long fruit forward finish.
Patton Valley, Pinot Noir, Willamette OR $25
Bright and lively on the nose, the wine has a driving, broad, and pleasant structure with red fruit for days such as Rainier cherry, strawberry, and raspberry. Spice and tannin are understated but present throughout, and the wine has a dynamic, lush, and inviting mouth feel. Sources 100% from the estate vineyard.
Januik, Merlot, Columbia Valley WA $26
This is a awesome Washington winemaker, Andrew Januik (Jan-ick). This is a cab drinkers’ Merlot. Medium to full bodied. It shows lots of black raspberry, cherry and plum notes in the nose that transition into fleshy black fruit and cocoa flavors in the mouth. Brimming with a tremendous amount of texture and length.
