Wine Tasting: Spring Cleaning Wines

Spring Cleaning

I can’t sleep in because of all the bright sun, lawn mowers, and the lousy birds chirping. That can only mean two things: I need to stop sleeping in the park, and we have moved into the second half of spring. Where the sun slowly comes out, grasses and bushes bloom, and my wife rolls out the list of Honey-Do’s for spring cleaning. Whether it be cleaning out the garage or a thinning out the closet, these wines will help you decide whether it’s a keeper or gets tossed. When you are facing the task of mowing the lawn or weeding the lawn, don’t go it alone. Come in, Taste, and Grab one of these fantastic bottles!

@ Ye Olde Humble Vine!

Saturday, May 18th. 4pm Until the bottles are empty!

Holzer, Gruner Veltliner, Wagram Austria $14

Just northwest of Vienna is Wagram, where winemaker Arnold Holzer and his brother Mathias are the fourth generation to run this family owned winery. This wine has a crisp green apple aroma, followed by big bold flavors of ripe green apples and nectarine.

Two Mountain, Riesling, Rattlesnake Hills Washington $16

This off-dry style exudes hints of hay, green pear, wild flowers and dust on the nose combine with incredible tastes of ripe citrus, green apple, and a hint of minerality. This wine lasts forever on your tongue.

Finn Hill, “Le Fantome Blanc” Pinot Gris, Columbia Valley Washington $20

dry, fruity minerality to the nose, putting one in mind of sliced melons, honeysuckle, and crushed gravel. Flavors that echo granny smith apple, lemons, kiwi fruit, and white peach. The aromatics shore up the mid and later palate with lemon zest, nectarine, ripe cantaloupe, and even sultanas and more honeysuckle.

Le Ballon, Rouge, Pays d’Oc France $12

Cinsault/Grenache blends are made up of two important grape varieties from southern France and are vinified as either red or rosé wines. The two varieties have much in common; both Grenache and Cinsault are lighter bodied.

Sobon, Estate Syrah, Amador California $19

Aromas of fresh baked blueberry pie with flavors that are rich and silky, with mouth-filling fruitiness that suggests pomegranates and plums. It is highly extracted and extremely well-structured, with multi-layered flavors and a long lingering finish. Sustainably farmed.

Yalumba, Shiraz, Barossa Australia $22

Approachable, full-bodied and fleshy. Deep and brooding with aromas of dark fruits, red spices, anise and ripe cherries, the palate flows with even texture towards a soft finish.
