Wine Tasting: FANTASTIC FALL

Fantastic Fall

Decoration season is in full effect. We have witnessed the store fronts morph from pools and sprinklers, into gourds and falling leaves. The sun is out, but a brisk cheek-chilling wind can cut through the even Grandma’s knitted wool sweater. The bushes and trees have almost finished their transformation. They are leaving behind traces of life in streaks of orange, pink, and fiery purple. Their whispers are filling up the corners of the porches and the gutters. This night, we will feature “Fantastic Fall” flavors. Something to keep us warm but not enough to make us take the blanket off our toes. First, a bubbly from Burgundy. A fantastic imposter to the big sister Champagne. Then the warm Tuscan classic white Vermentino will be on the docket. To kick up the heat a notch we toss in a California Cabernet Sauvignon from the famed Chalk Hill. But for the late nights…… We get downright steamy with 2 of our favorite Syrah. One from muh’ boys @ Two Mountain, and the other from Mr. Stolpman in Ballard Canyon WAY down south in Santa Barbara-ish California. Yah know... the dude that gave some of his vineyards to his vineyard crew or “The Gang” (La Cuadria). When your done raking your lawn, get into…

Humble Vine, Saturday October 26th, 4pm till the bottles are empty.

Louis Picamelot, Crémant de Bourgogne BRUT, Burgundy FR $19

A lemon gold color, with a rich but discreet foam. Note the fine balance between the fruity aromas coming from the grape varieties and the toasty aromas following the ageing in the bottle; a lovely alliance between viscosity and crispiness. Made from Pinot Noir (57%), Chardonnay (32%) and Aligoté, the secret Burgundy white grape (11%).

Valvirginio, Vermentino. Toscana IT $16

This wine is from Tuscany Italy and is crafted from 100% of the finest Vermentino grapes this side of The Colosseum. Fermented and aged using but the best unstainable steel forged by mortals and designed by wizards. The grape is as unique and elegant as the Caesar himself. Only outdone by another sip, after another. Still here?... The aromas outdo the gardens of Rome, and the irresistible texture can woo a soldier from battle. As the legend goes, the intense colors of the wine were the inspiration for the Sistine Chapel! Also, smells like lemons.

Mossback, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chalk Hill CA $22

The aromas are an enticing mix of dusty berries, currants, leather and cigar box. The lush mouthfeel reveals layered flavors of cassis, black licorice and vanilla. The firm, full tannins lead to a silky finish. This is a rich, round, dense Cabernet that will age gracefully for several years.

Two Mountain, Copeland Vineyard Syrah, Yakima WA $25

Starts with forest floor on the nose, cherries, and licorice. The body is big and powerful with plums, cherries, cranberry, light guy vanilla, and strong tart wild raspberry. There is a classic Syrah smoke on the finish but mostly fruit dominant, with a whiff of Butter!

Stolpman, La Cuadria, Ballard Canyon CA 2016 $27

La Cuadrilla pops with a blast of fresh red plum, boysenberry, and blueberry fruit.  Enjoyable out of the gate, the full-bodied wine’s power is totally in check – with tannin and acidity already integrated into the pure juiciness that lasts way through the finish.  This wine is going to make a lot of folks very happy with the crew!
