These areas of fine wines are on the Far-Outlying borders of France. Alsace, with their world-class white wines, is cornered in by Germany to the East and North (It has actually BEEN Germany a few times) with Switzerland underneath. The rest of the wines are from deep South France, and are bordered by the Mediterranean Sea or Spain to the South. These are some warm climates. The grapes get ripe and robust.
