Wine Tasting: $25
Clos La Coutale, Cahors Cahors, France | $22
Malbec may be Argentina's superstar, but it originally came from southwestern France, where it's traditionally called Côt, and Cahors was once famous for its nearly black wines. A blend of 80% Malbec and 20% Merlot, fermented in temperature-controlled tanks and aged one year in oak barrels and large wooden casks. Dark cherry, plum, leather, and earthy spice with rustic but approachable tannins. Malbec before it got its passport!
Catena, “Appellation La Consulta” Malbec Mendoza, Argentina | $27
The Catena family has been making wine since 1902 and helped put high-altitude Argentine Malbec on the world stage. Their La Consulta vineyards sit around 3,600 feet above sea level, where intense sunshine and chilly nights keep the grapes happy. Made from 100% Malbec, with French oak for about a year. The palate holds blackberry, plum, violets, cocoa, and velvety tannins. Same French grape, but with a little Argentine swagger!
Damsel, Cellars Malbec Royal Slope, Washington | $28
Winemaker Mari Womack got her start in Seattle restaurants before heading to Woodinville, where she worked her way into winemaking and eventually created Damsel Cellars. No damsel in distress here! Her Washington Malbec showcases the grape's dark-fruit personality, with blackberry, plum, violet, and a little peppery spice. 100% Malbec from Stillwater Creek Vineyard.
Novelty Hill, Malbec Royal Slope, Washington | $34
Novelty Hill sources this Malbec from its estate-owned Stillwater Creek Vineyard on Washington's Royal Slope, where volcanic soils and warm days help develop rich, concentrated fruit. The vineyard was also the first in the Columbia Valley to earn Salmon-Safe certification! The 2021 vintage blends 85% Malbec with 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 20 months in USA and French oak. Bringing blackberry, raspberry, dark chocolate, and lively acidity with a firm tannic backbone. A little Washington muscle with plenty of charm.
