Sierra Cantabria, Rioja Rosé Rioja, Spain | $21
This rosé brings together one white and splashes of 2 reds. Viura, Garnacha and Tempranillo. A fun Rioja combination where white Viura gives freshness and structure while Garnacha and Tempranillo bring the juicy red fruit. Flavors of strawberry, raspberry, pomegranate and watermelon, with a little floral spice, fresh acidity with a clean, dry and refreshing finish.
Lasalde Elkartea, “Balea” Txakoli Getariako Txakolina, Spain | $23
Now we head north. Way north. To the rainy, green Basque coast, where vineyards overlook the Atlantic and Txakoli has been part of local life for over 6 centuries. 95% Hondarrabi Zuri and 5% Hondarrabi Beltz, wonderfully named native white grapes responsible for Txakoli's electric acidity and seaside personality. Fermented in stainless steel and aged on its lees for five months, giving a little extra texture without losing that famous freshness. Aromatic notes of lime, green apple, herbs and salty Atlantic minerality, with bright acidity and a silky edge from the lees.
Huguet de Can Feixes Blanc Selecció Penedès, Spain | $24
Can Feixes has some serious history behind it. The estate appears in records dating to 1400. High in the mountains of Penedès, the vineyards benefit from cooler temperatures that help preserve freshness while the grapes slowly ripen. A still white blend centered around traditional Cava grapes grown on the estate: Parellada and Macabeo, with Xarel·lo, Lemon, white peach, melon and tropical fruit, along with flowers, ginger and a stony, mineral edge, bright, aromatic and dangerously easy to keep sipping.
Zárate, Albariño Rías Baixas, Spain | $29
Rías Baixas is basically where the Spanish mountains meet the Atlantic Ocean, and Albariño decided it had found its home. If Albariño has royalty, Zárate deserves a seat near the throne. The family's winemaking tradition dates to 1707. Zárate helped establish the famous Albariño festival, and won its wine competition three years running in the 1950s before retiring from the competition. This wine is 100% Albariño, grown in the granite-rich soils of Galicia's cool, wet Atlantic coast. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by time on the fine lees, preserving the grape's snap and salinity while adding texture. Lemon curd, pear, white peach and flowers, followed by crushed stone, herbs and that wonderful salty finish. Daaang. So Good.
