Barnard Griffen, Sangiovese Rose Columbia Valley, Washington $13
This Rose is a PNW staple. First vintage was 2002 ringing in at 200 cases. Now production is up to 8000 cases. 100% Sangiovese (the main grape of Chianti, Tuscany). High acidity and fruit aromas make this a great grape to grow for Rose. We find bright strawberry and watermelon rind, with moments of tangy pomegranate and black cherry. Dry as a bone.
Gard, Frejya Columbia Valley, Washington $22
Freyja is named in honor of the Norwegian goddess of love and is also a nod to the family's Scandinavian roots. It’s a great showcase of what a good winemaker can do with these varietals in Washington State. Boasting scintillating notes of roasted pear, white tea, white peach, dried mint, crushed stone, and sweet baking spice. 74% Viognier, 22% Roussanne, 4% Muscadelle. A shop favorite.
The Walls, “Stanley Groovy” Red Red Mountain, Washington $33
This blend is dominated by Portuguese varietals grown in in the Red Mountain AVA. Offers aromas of black plums, blueberries, and plenty of earthy and peppery notes. On the palate, it finishes with crunchy tannins, moderate acidity, and a long finish. 37% Touriga Nacional, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Tinta Roriz, 13% Tinta Cão, 9% Sezão, 4% Mourvèdre, 4% Grenache, 4% Counoise aged in 20% new French oak large format vessels.
Latta Wines, “Latta Latta” GSM Columbia Valley, Washington $34
Garnet hued blend with aromatics of black cherry macerated with black pepper, gun metal, sanguine. Crackling palate with solid acid and polished tannin. Grenache gives the red fruited framework and garrigue, Syrah the gamey depth and expansive mouthfeel, Mourvèdre holds down the bottom with bloodied blackberry and spice. 22 month neutral. 62% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and 13% Mourvèdre.
