Font du Loup, Cotes Du Rhone Blanc Rhone Valley, France $23
From Château de la Font du Loup in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this white leans into the region’s sandy, north-facing slopes, which tend to ripen more slowly and keep the wines fresh and lifted. It is a Rhône white blend centered on Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Clairette, and Bourboulenc. Floral, citrusy, and gently honeyed with a clean, mineral finish.
Chateau des Adouzes, Le Tigre Faugeres Languedoc, France $22
Faugères, an appellation defined almost entirely by schist soils, which gives the wines a mineral edge and a sense of calm tension. One of the few Languedoc areas where the whole appellation is built on one dominant soil type! Showing cassis, raspberry, pepper, spice, and a smooth on a balanced palate. It is aged in tanks for about 12 months, so the fruit stays direct and lively rather than heavily wooded. The blend is Grenache, Carignan, and Syrah.
Domaine Matha, Fer Servadou “La Bien Nez” Marcillac , France $21
Domaine Matha is based in Bruéjouls in Aveyron, where Jean-Luc and Françoise Matha have been making Marcillac since the early 1980s, and the estate has been certified organic since 2016. Medium body, firm tannins, blackcurrant, cherry, and green pepper notes. The finish leans into red fruit, pepper, and a rustic, earthy edge. The style usually stays fresh and energetic rather than heavy. 100% Fer Servadou.
Rombeau, “Botanist” GSM Roussillon, France $25
Château Rombeau is an old family estate in where tradition has survived phylloxera and two world wars, and the family still talks about keeping the old ways alive. Ripe fruit, spice, and floral lift, shaped by Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre, with each grape aged separately in French oak for around 11 months. The result is a generous but polished wine, with dark red fruit, spice, and a smooth, layered feel.
