Piper Sonoma, Brut Rose Sonoma, California $24
Aromas of fresh lemon, pie crust and pear take the lead on the nose of this Chard-dominated Brut sparkling wine. The palate brings a wave of minerality and bright lemon-lime acidity before a clean and fresh floral finish. Primarily composed of Chardonnay, with Pinot Noir and some Pinot Blanc.
Bonny Doon, Picpoul Arroyo Seco, California $18
Historically from the Languedoc region of France, but this Picpoul is from the Beeswax vineyard in Arroyo Seco in the Central Coast growing area in California. Picpoul or "lip-stinger" is known, of course for its tingling acidity but also has a singular savoriness. The nose of this Picpoul has a whisper of ripe peaches, wildflowers and the ubiquitous fragrance of beeswax!
Parducci, Petite Sirah Mendocino County, California $19
There's lots to like in this soft, simple Petite Sirah. Dark ruby in color with aromas of cherry, blackberry, mint, and chocolate, this big red is spicy, with dark fruit flavors and supple tannins. Aged 20 months in French and American oak barrels. Ripe and juicy.
Gangster of Love, G.S.M. Sierra Foothills, California $35
On the nose, enticing aromas of dark cherries, blackberries, and plums mingle with hints of baking spices and a touch of violet. The palate reveals luscious flavors of ripe berries, complemented by notes of black pepper and a subtle earthiness. With well-integrated tannins and a lingering finish. 28% Grenache, 44% Syrah, 28% Mourvedre.
