There and back again...

There and back again.

Come join our crusade. Across the big water we voyage to enlist a few flavors of joyous delight. The Tuscan-ites shall bestow upon us a pink and poetic rose that will seem to dance among the winds. And, a delightfully round Chenin Blanc from the lower hills of Loire. And off to Spain for a delightfully black elixir of Petit Verdot and Tannat. Only to be compared to the viscous and black-as-dragon-tears Malbec from the town of Cahors. And we return home with our bounty and taste a local Syrah crafted from deep within the caverns of SODO. Pull up your bootstraps and journey into….

La Spinetta, Rose, Tuscany Italy $22

Year after year, this Provence-inspired pink from Tuscany continues to impress us with its delicacy, elegance and world-class taste! Cherry blossom and orange peel flavors combine with notes of acacia flower, strawberry and spice.

Domaine des Forghes, St Aubin, Coteaux du Layon, France $24

Chenin Blanc harvested when it is over-ripe. Soil of shale, quartz, and clay and sand. Average age of vines are over 40 years. A nose of fresh grapefruit and tropical notes, including pineapple and whipped cream. Well- balanced in the mouth, where dried apricots, figs, dates, dominate. DANG!!!

Chapillon, Petit Verdot Hermione, Spain $21

Blend of 90% Petit Verdot and 10% Tannat. Brambles, cocoa, blackberry, dried figs, touch cinnamon leather and oak on nose and palate. The first sip surprises because of the absence of big tannins. Sweet fruit of blackberry, raisins and vanilla. Smooth tannins and lively acidity in a perfect balance.

Marne Brune Miocene, Cahors Malbec, France $29

The color is a sumptuous red. The aromas are intense. You can smell the viscosity and richness. black fruits. The attack on the palate is marked by a beautiful sweetness with a generous and fresh finish. Oddly, this Malbec reminds me of what I want from a Northern Rhone Syrah. Thick with notes of bacon and fire. No faults and NO comparison. This “Cahors” is AMAZING….
