Fun With Fermentation
This week, Humble Vine aims to break out of the box and show off some cool wines from Germany, Italy and Washington. Starting with a Rosato from the Veneto in North Italy. This is one of the longest, tasty and refreshing Rose's around. Lets back it up with 2 German classics: Riesling and Pinot Blanc... Neither are too sweet and are perfect for summer celebrations. Then 2 super delish Syrah from Washington State! They will be fun to compare the different realms of their stature. Then we dip into a wild location in Spain, right above Portugal, for a Mencia!... A wine that has changed dramatically over the years. This one is Big and fruit forward.
Please Join us Tomorrow May 30th at Humble Vine 4pm-8pm.
Scaia, Rosato, Veneto, Italy 2017 $14
Italian Rose! Gorgeous pale copper color. Bouquet of mountain peaches, white bread, roses, Raspberry, Strawberry sweet pepper, Cream. Long finish. Elegant and perfectly balanced on the palate this Rose' shows great acidity.
Bocking, Riesling, Mosel Germany 2017 $15
If the majority of top wine critics are to be believed, Riesling is the world's finest white wine grape variety. Bocking has Whiffs of saffron and spice that lend earthen complexity to cutting lime and green plum in this zesty Riesling. Off dry on the palate, it's delicately sheer and spry. Its invigorating style is pleasurable already but should only meld and improve.
Bocking, Pinot Blanc, Mosel Germany 2017 $15
This clear and brilliant wine reflects the mineral soil of the Mosel. There is an excellent balance of acidity and fruit that opens quickly. The wine has a roundness in the mouth and offers flavors of citrus and white flower.
Lone Birch, Syrah, Yakima, Washington 2015 $14
Aromas of dark plum, blue fruit and spice lead to full fruit flavors that show intensity, with vanilla flavors on the finish. The tannins show a slight grittiness that softens over time.
Two Mountain, Copeland Vineyard Syrah, Zillah Washington, 2016 $25
Starts with forest floor on the nose, cherries, and licorice. The body is big and powerful with plums, cherries, cranberry, light guy vanilla, and strong tart wild raspberry. There is a light smoke on the finish but mostly fruit dominant with a whiff of Butter!
Frago do Corvo, Mencia, Galicia Spain, 2016 $21
This opens with an intense bouquet of red cherry preserves, prune and suggestions of sandalwood. This wonderful wine shows nice richness and depth on the mid-palate, yielding to deep strawberry liquor, red cherry compote and cola flavors while maintaining underlying acidity through the bright finish.
