Wine Tasting. Cabernet Sauvignon!

New World Cabernet

A “new world” wine is (basically) wine that is not from Europe. Compared to old world cabernets, these new world Cabernet Sauvignons will be (generally) a bit jammier, juicier, and more “fruit foreword”. One from Australia, one from California, and four from our backyard, the Columbia Valley!

Somewine, Cabernet Sauvignon, California 2014

“This wine is great for drinking on holidays and all other days.” A classic, easy-drinking, medium bodied Cabernet with dark cherry, berry, cassis, and some vanilla and clove spice.

St. Hilaire Cellars, “12 Fan” Cabernet Sauvignon, Washington 2014

A deep rich color with aromas of blackberry, currants and spice. The fruit was picked at full ripeness to bring out these classic Cabernet flavors.

Gemtree, “Dragon’s Blood” Cabernet Sauvignon, McLaren Vale Australia 2016

A vibrant and inviting Cabernet from organic producers in the McLaren Vale. Vintage 2016 offered perfect conditions for expressive and complex Cabernet: Deep, complete fruit character with dark berry driving a palate of savory, toasty spice complexities

Revelry Vintners, Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, WA  2014

At Revelry, they source their Cabernet fruit from vineyards around the valley, targeting warm growing sites. It is in these areas (Red Mountain, The Wahluke Slope, Walla Walla Valley) that the 'King of Grapes' ripens most intensely. Stainless Steel Fermented, 16 months in Barrel, 90% French Oak. Red Fruit, Dark Chocolate, Balanced Acidity, Silky Smooth.

Ded Reckoning, “Cutlass” Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley WA 2014

Produced by Scott Greer at Sheridan Vineyard using 100% estate grown Cabernet. This ever-popular Cabernet has classic Sheridan fruit with layers of black fruits, tobacco, coffee and that very distinctive note of citrus rind that is a trademark of this exotic and exclusive vineyard.

Two Mountain, Cabernet Sauvignon, Copeland Vineyard, Yakima, WA 2014

Aromas of coffee, dark fruit and cedar combine with flavors of dark berry, currant, charred oak. Velvety tannins lead to a lingering finish.
