Wine Tasting Merlot!!!

Merlot

Merlot is a social butterfly. Merlot is the friend that is always the life of the party. Merlot is everyone’s best friend. You can find Merlot in the most expensive wines of the world. Bordeaux, Napa Meritage, Italian Super-Tuscans, Rioja and Crianza’s all use Merlot in the blend. The grape generally adds a fruity softness to the wine. Come with Humble Vine as we taste through a few merlot-based Bordeaux’s and Columbia Valley Merlot’s to compare their styles and flavors.

Ducourt Rose Lime, Bordeaux, No Vintage

Pale hot pink in the glass, the Rose Lime opens with aromas of pink grapefruit, yellow peaches, navel oranges, strawberries. Delicately sparkling, the Rose Lime refreshes the palate with a crisp citrus fruit expression accented by notes of peaches, sweet grapefruit, and candied ginger. Drink all by itself as a delightful aperitif, or pair with simple poached fish dishes, salads, fresh lightly sautéed green vegetables, and not-too-sweet desserts. Pink lemonade for grownups!

Chateau De Fontenille Bordeaux, 2012

Nice structure, bodied, dense, very representative of the asserted character of the typicity of the reds from this appellation with a stunning quality-price-pleasure combination. This wine starts to really develop after two or three years in bottle, suitable with grilled meat, roast beef, stews, poultry and cheese.

Chateau La Fond Bordeaux, 2012

Vibrant red. Enticing fruity nose reminiscent of ripe redcurrant with spicy undertones. On the palate, a velvety, easy-drinking wine dominated by expressive fruit. A trace of firmness on the finish suggests it has the capacity to age for a few years.

Two Mountain, Merlot, Yakima WA 2014

Aromas of rich toasted barrel, bright vibrant Bing cherry, blackberry and coffee on the nose are followed by inviting flavors of ripe red fruits, hints of toffee and vanilla, and soft integrated tannins.

Omnivore Merlot, Columbia Valley 2010

dark purple color and enticing aromas of plum, clove and baking spice. On the fruit-forward palate, dark fruit flavors of black cherry, wild blackberry and juicy plum are met with pronounced notes of sweet oak, vanilla and hints of mocha for a silky, textured mouthfeel. Notes of ripe raspberry and caramel linger on the generous finish.
